Application
Know how and where the scale will be used; will it interfaced to other equipment?
- Lab testing
- Quality assurance
- Manufacturing
- Shipping / receiving
- Counting parts
- Construction materials
- Food processing
- Health care
Readability
Readability is the smallest division a scale can display. Each above application requires a different level of precision for desired results. How much is necessary for your scale? To ensure accurate measurements use a scale with a readability greater than your desired result.
- If results needed are to the nearest 0.1g a balance with 0.01g readability is recommended
Capacity
Capacity is the maximum weight the scale can weigh. Don’t forget to add the weight of any containers that may be used to hold product
Units of Measure
Most scales can display results in a variety of units
- grams, kilograms, pounds, ounces, etc.
Some applications may require specific units.
Platform/ Pan size
Your application can dictate the size needed. The pan or platform must be large enough to accommodate product being weighed.
The location of the scale may also play a part in selecting size – space restrictions may mean choosing a smaller size
Other things to consider
there a preference for internal or external calibration?
Are the workplace requirements that may require lockdown capability for the scale
Do you need to perform below-balance weighing?
